The Science of Structured Water 💧
The Science of Structured Water
On a recent podcast, our friend Dr. Zach Bush made a profound statement:
💧 “You can assess someone’s vitality by measuring how much water is in their cells.”
💧 “Your biological age and likelihood of disease correlates perfectly with how much water your cells can hold.”
In this article, we will xplore how structured water influences your biological age, and how you can increase the amount of structured water in your cells. Let’s begin.
Water as a Measure of Health
Water is a facilitator of health in the body. With water, cells function smoothly. Without it, disease can begin to form. Here’s why:
Water Transports Nutrients
Water acts as a transportation system, carrying and delivering nutrients to every cell in the body.
Beyond nutrients, water also carries waste materials to the liver and kidneys where they can be eliminated.
💧 Without water, there would be a lack of nutrients and an excess of waste in the body.
But that’s not all…
Water Structures Our Cells
All the components of your cells (e.g. nucleus, mitochondria) are held in place by the cytoplasm — a.k.a. water — that fills the inside of the cell.
🎈 With water, the cell acts like an inflated balloon: full, healthy, and able to resist pressure from the external environment.
🪨 Without water, the cell becomes deflated, weak, and unable to move freely within the body.
By staying hydrated, we keep our cells full, strong, and resilient to stress.
However, there’s is one more key function of water…
Water Stores Light Energy
Structured water can store light energy, much like a battery holds a charge.
As our cells operate, they release biophotons — light energy. These biophotons send energy and information to the surrounding cells.
And according to Dr. Zach Bush, water is a factor in determining how much light energy can be sent from cell-to-cell.
⚡ With water, our cells can send more energy with more speed. Without water, they send less energy with less speed.
In short, water is essential for transporting nutrients, removing waste, and supporting the overall strength of our cells.
But is there a better form of water?

What Is Structured Water?
⛲ Structured water forms when water meets a hydrophilic surface — a material that attracts H20.
When water meets a hydrophilic surface, it splits into 2, with (H+) on one side and (OH-) on the other (see diagram below).
The collection of (OH)-s is known as structured water, but sometimes referred to as crystalline water, hexagonal water, 4th phase water, exclusive zone (EZ) water, or H302. Here’s why:
Structured Water vs. EZ Water vs. 4th Phase Water vs. H302
Structured water is known as “4th phase water” because it is neither solid (ice), liquid, or vapor — it is somewhere in between.
When the (OH-)s bond together, they form a heavier version of water — H302 — which his hexagonal in shape.
This structured water naturally repels toxins and non-water substances from the area, creating an exclusive zone (EZ) that does not permit anything but water to enter.
So that’s the science of structured water… but why is this important?
Health Benefits of Structured Water
Before we start, it’s important to note that these are potential health benefits. There are still no human studies on structured water, and even the animal studies are difficult to replicate. However, here is what we know.
🦠 The outside of our cells (cell membrane) is hydrophilic, meaning the water surrounding our cells is structured/hexagonal/H302.
🔬 The proteins inside of our cells are also hydrophilic, meaning there is structured /hexagonal/H302 water within the cell as well.
So the hypothesis is: since our cells are already forming structured water, consuming structured water may eliminate a step, and could allow your body to operate more efficiently.
But there Gerald Pollack suggests there is another benefit to structured water…
Remember, structured water is not normal water (H20) — it is a collection of (OH-) particles.
These (OH-) particles carry a negative charge, meaning they can help the body use more electrical energy.
🧬 Based on the fundamental chemistry of structured water, it makes sense that this type of water can be supportive for the basic functioning of our cells.
So how do we get more structured water?
How to Make Structured Water
There are 2 ways to increase the amount of structured water in your body: (1) consume more structured water, (2) convert more normal water into structured water. Let’s explore these options:
Consuming More Structured Water
🚰 Structuring your Own Water
There are devices that are designed to structure water. However, it is important to remember that structured water only forms in the presence of a hydrophilic surface. We recommend vetting the device to ensure it uses hydrophilic technology.
🌱 Structured Water from Nature
Like our cells, the water inside of plants is naturally structured. Based on data from Glen Rein, consuming water-rich foods like cucumber, grapes, and watermelon can increase the concentration of structured water in the body.
Creating More Structured Water
☀️ Sunlight
When Gerald Pollack discovered structured water, he also discovered a way to multiply structured water — natural light. When you shine light on the OH- particles in structured water, they begin to multiply. Therefore, sunlight can increase the amount of toxin-killing, energy-conducting EZ water in the body.
⚡ Electrolytes
Electrolytes like sodium, potassium and magnesium are fundamental to the process of osmosis — bringing water into the cell. By balancing your electrolytes, you can increase the % of water that moves from your stomach, into your bloodstream and then into your cells.
Now imagine this…
